The British Cleaning Council (BCC) is the authoritative voice of the UK cleaning, hygiene and waste industry. It coordinates, campaigns on behalf of and supports the entire sector, which is one of the country’s top ten biggest industries.
The council is made up of 22 trade and membership associations from all across the sector, including everything from contract cleaning, waste management, pest control, housekeeping, training providers, machine manufacturers and chemical suppliers to wheelie-bin washers.
The BCC produces an annual research report on all aspects of the industry. According to its latest research, the UK cleaning, hygiene and waste industry is worth £55.5bn and employs 1.47m people.
The BCC is the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Cleaning and Hygiene Industry. The APPG’s inauguration in February 2021 was a historic moment for the whole industry.
The APPG has the support of nearly 60 MPs from all the major political parties and members of The House of Lords. It exists to promote the critical importance of the cleaning and hygiene industry.
Along with Quartz Business Media, the BCC also produces the flagship industry event the Cleaning Show, which alternates annually between London and Manchester, and is a showcase for the latest developments and innovations in UK cleaning as well as providing a forum to discuss and debate major issues which impact on the whole sector. More than 7, 000 industry professionals attended the last London show.
The BCC’s Chairman is Jim Melvin, Group Chief Executive of the Exclusive Services Group and a Director at BCC member the Cleaning and Support Services Association (CSSA).
Delia Cannings, the National Lead for Education & Training at BCC member the Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (ahcp) is the BCC’s Deputy Chair and Simon Hollingbery is Company Secretary.
